The scammers I\u2019ve encountered claim to be from various countries, often from regions in Southeast Asia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They might mention details about their home country or talk about familiar cultural aspects, which can make them seem more trustworthy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it\u2019s important to be cautious and recognize that anyone can be targeted, regardless of nationality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Common Scammer Tactic #1: Moving the Conversation to Another App<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest red flags is when someone you\u2019ve just met on a dating app immediately wants to move the conversation to another messaging app, like WhatsApp or Telegram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many scammers try to do this because it\u2019s easier to operate without the security measures and oversight of dating platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In almost every case I\u2019ve encountered, the scammer has suggested switching apps early in the conversation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a huge red flag<\/span><\/strong>\u2014by staying on the dating app, you can minimize the chances of getting scammed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, conversations with scammers tend to be very shallow and uninteresting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They show little interest in genuinely getting to know you, focusing instead on steering the conversation towards their real objective: scamming you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Common Scammer Tactic #2: Talking About Business or Showing Off Wealth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Another recurring theme among scammers is that they often bring up business or investment opportunities very early in the conversation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some even send photos of books like Rich Dad Poor Dad<\/em> <\/strong>or claim to have been taught business skills by a family member.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They like to flaunt their supposed wealth, sending pictures of cash or talking about their successful ventures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you press for more details about their business, it becomes obvious that their knowledge is shallow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They might also claim to have some \u201cmoney-making opportunity\u201d that you can get in on\u2014be careful! It\u2019s just a trap.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In one case, I had a scammer send me a picture of a large amount of cash, only to match with me again on a different app months later, using a different name and photo, without recognizing me at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This shows how often they change their identity to continue scamming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surprising Tactics: Video Calls to Build Trust<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A recent trend is that scammers are becoming more bold. They\u2019re willing to do video calls to earn your trust, sometimes even using the person in the profile picture. <\/span><\/strong>While this can make them seem more genuine, it\u2019s often just part of the scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some scammers will avoid video calls, but others will initiate them\u2014especially if they don\u2019t live in your country and aren\u2019t concerned about being recognized. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be careful, as this tactic is becoming more common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, there have been reports of scammers using AI technology to conduct real-time video calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They can alter their appearance to look like a different person and instantly change their voice from male to female, making it necessary to be cautious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even during video calls, take care to verify if the person is genuinely who they claim to be by observing for any inconsistencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
